Prepping for Riveropolis

Working on their trees for Riveropolis Installaion

This weekend, I had a Mom's Day Off Retreat on Saturday, so Mr. J took the children to the Make a Tree Event at the Museum. The artist provided the real tree branches and many interesting bits and pieces and paints for participants to decorate their trees with. The trees will then become part of the artist's installation artwork "Riveropolis" which he will be preparing for the end of the month.

shaped by waterArtist Gregory Gavin was there watching as kids and adults worked on their trees under the arbor of the Museum patio. You can check out his website at www.riveropolis.com and watch a short PBS clip on his work at the website also. He recently completed an installation at the de Young Museum in San Francisco so we're very excited he will be doing one for our little local museum.

On Sunday, the kids wanted to go to the Museum AGAIN, so we returned together as a family and they made another batch of trees. I got to chat with the artist's Mom while I was there. She was so sweet. She and her husband have been married over 60 years and she says he still makes her laugh every day. How cute is that? It was also very obvious that she was very proud of her son, Gregory, and it gave me a different perspective of the artist and his work.

Can't wait to see the opening in October!
